Business Transfer Opportunities

I graduated! Now what?

The path from community college to a four-year college or university can be a challenging one, but some schools do their best to help their students navigate it. Articulation agreements between colleges can help transfer students make the transition more seamlessly for an improved chance of overall success.

How do articulation agreements help transfer students?

Generally, articulation agreements document a pathway between two or more colleges or universities and their academic programs. Articulation agreements are also called transfer agreements, transfer guides, and transfer pathways by various institutions. Articulation agreements attempt to simplify the college transition from NOC to the 4-year partner school’s program. The student benefits by following very specific course plans avoiding taking courses that are not applicable and reducing the loss of course credits.

NOC creates articulation agreements with partner 4-year institutions after reviewing the curriculum and agreeing on how courses completed will satisfy course requirements at the partner 4-year institution. These transfer agreements narrow the range of course options by providing a checklist or sequence of what courses should be taken to satisfy degree requirements at NOC that aligns with the future school.

Transfer agreements simplify the complexity of determining what courses to take and virtually eliminate the guess work regarding transferability. Following NOC’s articulation agreements should save students time and money – an important benefit when coping with the escalating cost of higher education alternatives.

Northern has two types of articulation agreements with OSU. Traditional 2+2 and a unique 1+3 agreement. The 1+3  agreement is specific to the Stillwater Campus and allows NOC-Gateway students to take 24+ hours at NOC-Stillwater and then transfer to OSU. After the second semester at OSU, the student has the opportunity to send the OSU transcript to NOC for a reverse transfer to complete the AS in Business Administration degree with NOC. Speak with your NOC or OSU advisor for more information and for specifics on how classes will transfer from NOC to OSU.
