NOC Enid hosts Chautauqua Teachers’ Institute
Northern Oklahoma College Enid hosted the Chautauqua Teachers’ Institute June 13-18.
The summer teaching institute is in its 14th year.
The institute is led by Dr. DeLisa Ging, NOC Enid Language Arts Instructor, Instructional Designer and Coordinator of Professional Development.
This summer’s workshop was “Surviving the Sixties: Sex, Drugs, and Rock and Roll.
“The Chautauqua Teachers’ Institute allows teachers and students to learn about a given time period in an interactive fashion and provides them opportunities to see some of Oklahoma’s historical landmarks,” Ging stated.
During the six-day workshop, teachers and students’ earning college credit hear lectures from five nationally recognized scholars who are sponsored by the Enid Chautauqua Board LLC and other participating sponsors.
Each evening, class members saw a character portrayal of historical figures including John Lennon, Allen Ginsberg, Cass Elliot, Timothy Leary, and Christopher Isherwood.
The class also traveled to Oklahoma City visiting the National Cowboy Hall of Fame and Western Heritage Museum and the Oklahoma City National Memorial and Museum.
This year’s institute had 19 students and instructors seeking college credit or professional development credit.
