NOC Criminal Justice wins regional championship
The Northern Oklahoma College Criminal Justice Delta Kappa Epsilon chapter of the American Criminal Justice Association at Northern Oklahoma College won the competition sweepstakes championship and at the Regional Competition at the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (TX) Oct. 10-12.
Criminal Justice Instructor Troy Cochran, advisor to the student organization as well as Regional Vice-President and National President was proud of NOC’s performance.
“We had limited time to prepare for this conference and students worked on their own time to study and practice crime scene investigations and firearms,” he said. “To bring back the championship was quite a shock, we’ve been close before but hadn’t won this award since 1992. They represented NOC and the State of Oklahoma very well.”
NOC Alumni and regional secretary Samantha Mears added, “Region 2’s conference every year is a place for great company, insightful mentors, exciting competitions, and moments to remember. Delta Kappa Epsilon at NOC is proud to represent NOC and Oklahoma bringing home 27 medals and five trophies including the sweepstakes championship award.”
This trip was only possible with fundraising efforts, generous grants from the Presidential Partners Endowment Grants and the Masonic Fraternity of Oklahoma Endowment Grants through Northern Oklahoma College’s Development & Community Relations Department.
Region 2 of the ACJA consists of 42 active chapters in six different states. The conference brings together college, university students and professionals in the field of criminal justice to improve criminal justice through educational activities and promote professional, academic and public awareness of criminal justice issues.
