The Northern Oklahoma College Foundation has recently received an anonymous donation to establish a new endowed scholarship honoring the Alpha 2 Substance Abuse Treatment Center that was located in Tonkawa.
The treatment center provided much needed resources when individuals were in crisis. Alpha 2 served individuals in Tonkawa starting in 1978. Through Alpha 2, individuals had access to short-term residential programs. Fundamentally focusing on substance abuse treatment services, Alpha 2 treated patients who needed substance abuse treatment.
“The Northern Oklahoma College Social Science Division continues to be grateful to Alpha 2 as the organization has recently been honored with an anonymous gift to create an endowed scholarship to honor the Alpha 2 Legacy,” said Social Science Division Chair Darrell Frost. “Through this scholarship, Northern Oklahoma College can assist students in their academic endeavors to pursue a career in counseling or social work to help those who need it most. The need for such individuals has grown even faster during this pandemic and Northern Oklahoma college Looks forward to this opportunity to educate more individuals with this desire to help in their hearts. Alpha 2 is missed in the Tonkawa community but with the help of this anonymous scholarship it is our hope to help continue their dream.”
NOC Tonkawa students can make application through the scholarship office to be considered for this scholarship. The recipient, selected on an annual basis, can be either a full-time or part-time social/behavioral science major with an emphasis in either counseling or social work.
“We are so grateful for this private gift,” said NOC President Cheryl Evans. “These gifts are so critical in supporting our students in key academic programs which will eventually graduate and assist in the workforce demand of counseling and social work professionals in Oklahoma.”
The NOC Foundation serves as a private fundraising organization for NOC, as designated by the NOC Board of Regents. Its primary purpose is to enhance the educational opportunities and the overall environment of NOC.
