The Northern Oklahoma College Board of Regents met Tuesday, Oct. 15 at NOC Tonkawa.
The board heard a report from athletic director Jeremy Hise. Hise, who has been the athletic director the past seven years.
Hise discussed the school’s 14 athletic programs including athletic training, cheer, women’s soccer, men’s soccer, women’s basketball, men’s basketball, softball, and baseball at Tonkawa as well as athletic training, cheer, women’s basketball, men’s basketball, softball, and baseball at Enid.
Since 2013, Hise said that NOC programs have won two NJCAA National Academic Championships while 39 teams were recognized by the NJCAA for academic excellence. A total of 209 NOC athletes have been named Academic All-Americans and the athletic department held a 3.14 GPA for 2018-19.
Hise explained that NOC athletes give back to the community including the following causes: McCord Elementary, NOC Move-In Weekend, 4R Kids, Tonkawa Elementary Carnival, Miracle League, SPCA, Loaves and Fishes, Operation Christmas Child, and Stamp Out Starvation among others.
NOC athletes compete on the field as well as NOC teams (since 2013) have eight national tournament appearances, one NJCAA National Championship (Enid), 30 nationally ranked teams, 20 All-Americans, two NJCAA national records set, 10 coaches named NJCAA Region 2 Coach of the Year, and one national Coach of the Year.
Twenty-six NOC athletes have earned Division I scholarships, according to Hise.
Regents approved the monthly financial report and approved the following purchases: Avaya Telecom Renewal, $31,907.37; Roof Replacement for Gantz Center at NOC Enid (Base Bid and Skylights), American Roofing for $386,600.00.
Regents also approved an internal audit report from Hinkle & Co., P.C. Wade Fisher presented the report saying it was a “clean audit.”
At lunch, the regents met with the NOC Tonkawa President’s Leadership Council students. The students introduced themselves and told what they like most about NOC.
Vice-Chair Jodi Cline presided over the meeting in the absences of Chair Dale DeWitt. Also present were regents’ Stan Brownlee and Michael P. Martin.
The next meeting will be Friday, Nov. 15 at NOC Tonkawa’s President’s Large Conference Room in the Vineyard Library/Administration Building at 1 p.m.
